Lee Resources was founded to fill a services gap in the building materials
industry.
The building materials industry has several unique service requirements that
demand a focused approach by a dedicated management services provider. The
rapid growth of "category killers" such as The Home Depot, Lowe's Companies,
Menard's, Eagle Stores, HomeBase, etc. have driven many building supply
businesses to make the cultural shift from a consumer to a professional
builder orientation.
In virtually every metropolitan community in North America, smaller custom
builders are losing ground to the much larger and more sophisticated tract or
production builders, forcing progressive lumberyards to change their
traditional method of going to market.
Industry consolidation during the decade of the '90s occurred on
practically a daily basis. As the giants of the industry acquire smaller
building material retailers, their economies of scale have improved to the
point that pressure on pricing--and consequently gross margins--has increased
dramatically.
In 1987, Lee Resources began with just one employee and has grown to a team
of 11 associates who generate in excess of $1 million in annual billings.
